Writing with no specific goal is like running when you don’t have to get anywhere. I wonder how you feel about that statement? Well I’m finding writing a blog with no specific goal very enjoyable, well more than enjoyable.

For most of my life I have been writing but for a very specific purpose, essays at school, papers for my degree, reports for the council, to a deadline – to meet a target, under pressure.

I realise now that because of this pressure I had stopped enjoying writing and had even become scared of writing often wondering “What if it wasn’t good enough?” Now am writing firstly for me and not worrying if someone else finds it acceptable, it is so refreshing. If you are reading this, and you can take something from it, then that’s great, if you enjoy it that’s lovely, but if you don’t it doesn’t matter, I will keep on writing and maybe I’ll write something you that you will.

But more than anything I am writing unfettered for the first time in a long time and it feels rejuvenating. Like a workhorse turned out into a paddock not to retire but to play. After a moment of trepidation, I am kicking up my heels and it’s wonderful.

I am not foolish enough to think that after the feeling of total freedom wears off I may well need to look more for purpose, but for now I can just let the words flow and I love it!
